Steam Link App for Raspberry Pi The Steam Link app extends Steam Link functionality to the Raspberry Pi 3B and 3B+, running Raspbian Stretch. ![]() The Steam Link was officially discontinued just last month, and while the device has been outclassed in performance it’s tough to beat the price. The Terminal can be opened by clicking its icon at the top right corner of the Desktop area. ![]() Once booted up, open the Terminal window (use the Ctrl + Alt + T shortcut) and enter: sudo apt update sudo apt install steamlink The first of these commands updates the Raspberry Pi's packages list. Instructions for how to do so are noted in a Steam community post. Steam Link is installed on the Raspberry Pi using the install terminal command. Like your computer, the Raspberry Pi should be connected to your network via Ethernet. The internet (mainly Reddit) was all aflutter last week due to the release of the Steam Link app beta version for the Raspberry Pi. This allows users to connect to the Stream Deck setup over the network as if they were. Initial installation will get you the full app and a desktop shortcut, and further updates will happen automatically. The Pi Zero W is running Raspberry Pi OS along with a network USB server application called VirtualHere. Installation is a fairly simple command line instruction, and from then on you can launch it from the Games menu or with the ‘steamlink’ command. But the good news is that the Steam Link app is now available in beta on the Raspberry Pi 3 and 3 B+ running Raspbian Stretch, More recently the company released Steam Link app that allows players to stream games to their mobile devices, while being rendering on more powerful machines.
